Forgiveness: What It Is and Understanding Its Power

Webster Dictionary defines forgiveness as: to stop feeling anger toward someone, to stop blaming, and to stop requiring payment.

When reading the definition of forgiveness the word STOP stood out…

Too many of us feel trapped in stagnant family, romantic, and workplace relationships. The toxic thoughts and emotions weigh us down.

So today I want you to STOP judging your past and START releasing circumstances, situations, and the people who caused you hurt or discomfort.

Forgive yourself first, it is only when we forgive ourself and have compassion for others will we begin to feel a shift in our mindset.

Forgiveness doesn’t mean agreeing with, condoning, or even liking what has happened. Forgiveness means letting go and knowing that –regardless of how challenging, frightening or difficult an experience may seem – everything is just as it needs to be to grow and learn. When you focus on how things should be, you deny the presence of power and love.  Accept the events of the past but change the perspective of them.

Forgiveness is a true path to freedom that can renew faith and create hope.

Forgive your parents, children, friends, partners, co-workers, bosses, yourself and even God.

Here are 4 steps to implement on your journey to forgiveness:
Step 1: Make the decision to forgive
Step 2: Pray
Step 3: Understand forgiveness is a process it will not happen overnight
Step 4: Talk about share your experience with those that are in need of your help

Dear God,
Today I ask for and open myself to receiving healing and restoration of my mind, my heart, and all of my relationships. I confess that I have not always been kind or loving to people. I confess that I have held judgments about people. I confess that I have allowed unkind, unloving, judgmental thoughts and beliefs to affect my relationships. For this, I ask for and accept Your forgiveness, and I forgive myself.

Today, I ask that my heart and mind be opened so that I will accept all people. I ask that You create in me a clean heart and renew a right spirit within me so that my divine relationship with people will be restored. I ask for the will to forgive and move forward in love.

I lay down my weapons.
 I open my heart.
I forgive.
I let it be! And so it is!
