Pothole after pothole…bump after bump, we weaved throughout traffic. I looked out the shaking windows of the local van as we traveled down the streets in Nairobi, Kenya. I could see the women and children walking along the busy street ways with metal scraps or vegetables tied to their heads and backs.
I could not believe what I was seeing, the only thoughts that came to mind – we all have daily challenges and how fortunate I am.
Every night my eyes would fill with tears after seeing volatile living conditions and people with HIV/AIDS I could only reflect on what I was missing, what I had just experienced.
I realized the more you chase after “things” in life the more you became a slave to “things”. For example, my vehicle is reliable. It takes me from point A to point B, but I am still not satisfied or I live in an apartment but I desire a home in a gated community. I constantly want more.
I was reminded to be faithful over a few things and God will bless you with many. Please do not misunderstand, the lesson learned was not about increasing my living capacity, it was about understanding the simple things in life. It’s about living with less stress, eliminating distractions, and growing spiritually.
Lesson learned, it’s not about the big house, the nice cars, or titles. Life is about living the way God intended us to. I won’t complain.
